F & J Collectibles

If you have ever though about collecting stamps, now is a good time to start.

But first a few words of advice:

Before you spend a lot of money buying albums, pages, stockbooks, and all that stuff, which can run you quite a lot of money, start on a small scale. First, make sure that you really want to become involved in stamp collecting. The hobby is very absorbing and can last for a lifetime.

So, what do you need to get started? A small album that has pictures of all the stamps you will collect. I suggest you start out by collecting whatever stamps you can get at the least possible cost. This will not be your main collection. As you grow in the hobby you will probably develop special interests in your collecting endeavors. You might decide that you just want to collect just a few select countries, and only for a specific era, just as Great Britain during the reign of King George VI (1937-1952). Or you might decide that you want to collect topicals or thematics. These are stamps that feature a specific topic such as Animals, Flowers, Airplanes, Trains. The list is unlimited. You might decide that you just want to collect postally used stamps, or just mint stamps.

Once you decide on your collecting interests, and have become complete hooked on the hobby, then you can think about investing in more expensive albums, using mounts instead of hinges, etc.

We also recommend that you consider joining the American Philatelic Society. When you contact them, let them know that we recommended you. My APS # is 144718.
